I
Inspired by the ongoing destruction, occupations, and abuses of power that continue to shape our world, this work emerges from loss. Yet, its essence is rebirth: the capacity to rebuild with renewed strength.
I
For the first time, I have chosen ashes as the central material. These ashes come from sculptures that were burned in the bonfire of San Juan in Mutriku, during a performance with Garazi Etxaburu. Before they were reduced to ashes, the pieces were molded in acrylic stone, preserving the memory of what they once were. Some retain marks that evoke the plowing of the earth—a symbol of regeneration and hope.
The sculptures arise from the remains of wood and debris from my previous creations. On that base, the acrylic stone pieces merge with the ashes of the bonfire of San Juan, integrating the scars of the fire into their surface. Like the earth that is oxygenated by being ploughed, these works are testimony to the fact that, even in destruction, there beats the possibility of a new beginning.
